STEM COLLEGE TOUR, Auburn University
STEM GUEST SPEAKER: Pierre Thys
Harvard University MBA student, Bridging Engineering with Business
Tele-conferencing from #1-ranked Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts, Pierre, a current business graduate student and past Georgia Tech mechanical engineer undergraduate, discussed with students his experiences growing up in Ecuador and his transition as a Hispanic immigrant into the United States. In addition, he gave a comprehensive analysis of his past positions as a John Deer engineer, Deloitte management consultant, and now an entrepreneur for his very own customized luxury sock company - Pierre-Henry, LLC. Pierre was very adamant on how he used his engineering skills to elevate his company through identifying problems from market research and creating solutions from available technology/internet resources. Pierre stated there is one element about entrepreneurship anyone entering the business-world should know: "Businesses that start from the supply-side most likely will fail. Businesses that start from the demand-side have the best chance to succeed."
